Brisbane has experienced a number of major floods, 1893 and 1974 when lives were lost.

1893 - Black February Flood
The Queensland flood of February 1893 is often referred to as the Black February Flood. Tropical cyclone Bundinyong created extreme weather conditions and heavy rain, with Crohamhurst recording 914 mm in a 24 hour period. The water gauge recorded 8.35 m above the low tide level and 889 mm of rain fell in the Brisbane water catchment reserves.
Further flooding destroyed two major bridges. Both the Victoria bridge and the Indooroopilly Railway bridge collapsed.
There were 35 recorded deaths.
1974
24 January - 31 January 1974
Sixteen people lost their lives, including twelve people who were drowned in Brisbane and Ipswich.
2022
The February 2022 Brisbane Flood was the result of a weather event that evolved rapidly seeing the Brisbane Local Government Area experience between 400-1100mm of rainfall from 23 to 27 February 2022.
