The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) now manages the new national business names register.
The new national business names registration service replaces the previous state and territory services so that businesses only need to register their name with a single national register.
Generally existing registered business names in the states and territories were automatically transferred to the new register. Existing business name holders do not need to do a thing. We will contact existing business name holders when it is time to renew their name.
From 28 May 2012 you can register a new business name online and in most cases receive confirmation of your registration straight away using our new online check name availability search.
You can also search for a business name online by entering a name or business details.
Costs for registering a national business name are significantly cheaper under the new online system: $30 for one year or $70 for three years.
